Individuals of an Italy-based clan of burglars who stole more than £1.2m valued of goods, among them from ex- Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, have been mandated to pay back just £1 per person.

Brothers Valentino and Giacomo Nikolov, their female sibling Jela and her child Charlie Jovanovic journeyed to the northeastern of England to raid three houses in April 2024.

The foursome were jailed for from a decade or less in 2025.

At a proceeds of crime proceeding at Newcastle Crown Court, Jela Jovanovic and the Nikolov brothers were instructed to repay £1 each while Charlie must pay £1,135.

Details of the Burglaries

The judge previously heard the gang arrived by boat in the UK on 27 March 2024 and used a RV as their "headquarters", which they stationed at a service area and Durham service service stations while using a separate vehicle to search for targets and carry out thefts.

On March 31 they stole over one million pounds of goods including high-end fashion, handbags, jewelry and a honor from a house on Clayton Road in Jesmond, Newcastle, while the owners were away.

The next evening, the gang broke into a home on a private road in Whitburn, and took luxury bags, valuables and shoes worth more than £100,000.

After scouting out the football club's facility for 48 hours, they then struck at the residence of Sweden striker Alexander Isak in Darras Hall, Ponteland on April 4, taking £10,000 in cash, £68,000 valued of jewellery and the player's one hundred twenty thousand pound luxury car.

The gang, who were portrayed by prosecutors as professional touring thieves, wore gloves and face coverings, turned their mobile devices on silent as they approached their objectives and strapped a number plate, which had been taken from a auto shop in a town, on to their vehicle with rubber straps.

They were arrested in the Birmingham on April 13.

Legal Hearings and Rulings

Valentino had pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to burglary but was convicted by the court, while his family members had all submitted admissions to the identical accusation.

At the proceeds of crime hearing, prosecutor Daniel Cordey said every one of the defendants had benefited from their offenses to the amount of £1,266,285.93, which was based on what the victims said they had had stolen.

But Charlie was the sole individual found to have any funds that could be "realised", namely £1,135.50 which had previously been confiscated by authorities, the court heard, with 14 days to be served in prison if he defaulted.

The other three had no money or assets so were directed to pay a nominal fee of £1 each, with seven days in prison the consequence if the money was not submitted.

Judge Spragg said if they were found with property in the future, "for example operating Italy in a sports car or owning a property", prosecutors could initiate new proceedings to "satisfy the amount due".
