The original creators behind the famous frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has stated that parent company the multinational conglomerate blocked the introduction for an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, who established the company with his partner, disclosed how he will personally create this new flavor within a personal collection highlighting causes Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Conflict Between Founders versus Parent Company

This latest announcement escalates the continuing conflict among the internationally recognized dessert company with its corporate parent, the British packaged goods giant which acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

The co-founders maintain that Unilever and their ice cream division Magnum unlawfully blocked their company against "maintaining its activist principles".

The Fruit Flavor as a Symbol of Support

Mr. Cohen stated through social media how he is creating a new watermelon-based sorbet, asking for consumer ideas regarding the product's name and potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen declared in his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-based frozen dessert that advocates for permanent peace in Palestine while demanding addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem of support for Palestinians due to its colors, that closely resemble the colors in the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Historical Social Engagement and Recent Changes

Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in areas under Israeli control, leading to Unilever transferring the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution in the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming product line is being developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company that originally established in 2016 for endorsing former political contender Bernie Sanders with the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Changes plus Future Intentions

Mr. Cohen stated that he plans to develop additional ice cream flavors focusing on issues which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly by corporate restrictions.

The announcement comes after co-founder Jerry Greenfield resigned his position at Ben & Jerry's in September, following decades with the organization, citing worries that the company's autonomy had been undermined following Unilever's decision to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Ben Cohen remarked that "Jerry has a really big heart and this conflict with Unilever was breaking it."

“My conscience leads me to keep working inside the company to fight for its independence ensuring that the company can actualise the social mission, the principles which it was founded on while upholding for decades," he told journalists.
