Both Deceased Students Revealed in the Ivy League School Shooting as Authorities Press On With Manhunt for Gunman.

Both young individuals who were killed in Saturday’s violent attack at Brown University had tributes paid to them on Monday – while an intensive search for their killer persisted following the release by Rhode Island officials of the only individual of interest in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a ceremony on Sunday.

She served as second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, as the club stated. Karoline Leavitt also shared condolences on social media, remarking: “It's indescribable. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The second fatality was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the Ivy League university, his family confirmed.

The victim's identification was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” his sibling Samira said in a memorial statement.

Details of the Attack

Nine more persons were wounded in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-old male arrested in a police operation at a lodging about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“We have a murderer out there,” declared Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and head another way, and this is precisely what occurred over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, noted: “This will probably generate new worry for our public”.

The gunman began shooting inside a classroom in the building on Saturday afternoon, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm handgun, a authority told the news agency.

Officers that entered the lodging recovered a pair of pistols and magazines when the person of interest was arrested, the news agency reported.

Those Hurt

Of the nine hurt, a single scholar was released from the hospital, mentioned Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in grave but unchanging health, and one was in critical condition, authorities stated on Sunday.

An educational institution, a private K-12 school in Durham, North Carolina, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Additional Memorials

Cook was honored at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only during her upbringing... but at Brown University she was a shining example in that particular place as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the group. “She was famed for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she worked for her branch and peers,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a message. “We extend our sincere condolences to his relatives, friends, and peers and lament the passing of his bright future.”
