President Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured Military Members to the Presidential Residence
President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Incident
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.
White House Offer
The president said he’s talked about a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump addressed journalists. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Mourners gathered over the weekend at a local school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid public safety in DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that instructors desired. She carried herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the leader of her former high school, told the press. “She was kind, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Government Adjustments
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The event led the Trump administration to suspend refugee claims and cease providing visas to owners of travel documents.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader the governor stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit his relatives.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had courage,” Morrisey told the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
