Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his future following a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
The manager highlighted known weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a phase of this nature with performances this poor.”
He finished, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone again the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
