The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
